Though it is but one step in what may still be extended litigation, it was heartening to see that after a long struggle, Access Copyright, the Canadian copyright licensing agency, won a suit against York University over copyright infringement.

It is a test case against York, but could well apply to other universities who took a button in the new Copyright Act and sewed a suit on it, essentially

Pride and Prejudice” deals with the gradual union of Darcy and Elizabeth. Shortly after they began to diverge because of their “pride” and “prejudice” but in course of time Darcy’s pride demolishes and Elizabeth’sprejudice turns into a reasoned attitude and finally they are best suited to each other for a marital relationship.

How are the Theme of Pride and Prejudice Treated in “Pride and Prejudice” Overcome Their Respective Pride Prejudice.

At the Meryton ball when Bingley suggests that Darcy should dance with Elizabeth he makes the insulting remark that she is tolerable but not handsome enough to tempt him. Elizabeth overhears Darcy’s remark and feels somewhat slighted. She becomes prejudiced against him which is again strengthened by the lies told by George Wickham about Darcy. He says that Darcy has deprived him of his father’s promised career of a Clergyman to Wickham. Further colonel Fitzwilliam reveals to her that Darcy is responsible for dissuading Bingley from marrying Jane. Elizabeth is agitated over the revelation and hates Darcy as never before for meddling in Jane’s life.

Though Elizabeth is prejudiced against Darcy he begins to feel affection for her. He is attracted by the beautiful expression of her dark eyes. When Elizabeth was staying with the Collins’s Darcy made his first proposal to her. Elizabeth turns down his proposal accusing him of dissuading Mr. Wickham. In order to defend himself he writes a letter to her. Regarding Jane and Bingley Darcy admits that he persuades Bingley to give up Jane for he had the impression that Jane did not really love Bingley. As for Wickham Darcy states that after the death of Darcy’s father Wickham wished to take up law and gave up his claim to a church living by accepting in lieu of it 3000 pounds to use to study law. Darcy gave him 3000 pounds but Wickham misspent the money and tried to get more from Darcy and when that failed tried to elope with Darcy’s sister which was foiled by Darcy.
Now learning the truth about Wickham and Darcy’s frank confession that he has dissuaded Mr. Bingley from marrying Jane role in materializing Lydia’s marriage to Wickham because he paid all of Wickham’s debts and bought him a commission in the army. When Darcy proposes to her for the second time he says that what he has done in Lydia Wickham affair has done for the sake of Elizabeth. He did it out of his deep love for her. He wishes to know if she has changed her mind after her first refusal. Elizabeth responds that her feelings have greatly changed and that she also loves him.

Darcy admits to Elizabeth that her refusal of his first proposal caused him to examine his pride. While making his first proposal of marriage to Elizabeth he was sure that she would accept it most readily and promptly. But she had humbled him by rejecting his proposal and made him realize that he was not worthy of her as long as he remained a proud and conceited man. Thus Elizabeth had taught him a lesson by refusing his proposal which helps him to get free from his pride. As for Elizabeth she overcomes her prejudice gradually for Darcy’s real affection for her. Thus though the novel begins with their pride and prejudice against each other it comes to a happy end when they conquer their “Pride and Prejudice”.

Deborah the judge 2
Unfortunately over time they forgot God, disobeyed His commandments and began to worship idols. As a consequence they did not live in peace but suffered under attacks from their enemies.
Deborah the judge 3
The Israelites were not ruled by a king, instead God raised spiritual leaders called Judges who did their best to direct the people to serve God.
Deborah the judge 4
But when the judge died, they would turn back and act more corruptly than before. They returned to their stubborn, disobedient ways and worshipped idols instead of God (Judges 2:18-19).

Deborah the judge 5Deborah the judge 6Deborah the judge 7

Deborah the judge 5
So God allowed the Canaanites, ruled by King Jabin, to develop a strong army with over 900 chariots under the command of mighty Sisera. The powerful Canaanites mistreated the Israelites for 20 years.
Deborah the judge 6
They raided and stole their crops.
Deborah the judge 7
They captured their cattle. Eventually, the people prayed and cried out to God for help. Do you know what it is like to suffer under cruel people? God hears the prayers of those who suffer.

Deborah the judge 8Deborah the judge 9Deborah the judge 10

Deborah the judge 8
Bible story - Judges 4.
In those days there was a woman prophetess who judged over the people. Her name was Deborah and she lived in the hill country of Ephraim. People were willing to travel up into the hills for her guidance from God.
Deborah the judge 9
Deborah summoned Barak the leader of the Israelite and said. ‘The Lord, the God of Israel, has commanded, “Go and march to Mount Tabor with ten thousand men from the tribes of Naphtali and Zebulun. I will draw out Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his many troops to the river Kishon, and I will give you victory over him.”’
Deborah the judge 10
Barak replied, ‘I will go but only if you go with me. If you won’t go with me, I won’t go.’ ‘I will go with you,’ said Deborah, ‘But the credit for victory will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.’

Deborah the judge 11Deborah the judge 12Deborah the judge 13

Deborah the judge 11
Sisera, the commander of the Canaanites heard that Barak gathered together 10,000 men to fight him at Mount Tabor. He quickly gathered his trained men of war and 900 iron chariots to attack Barak and his group of poorly equipped fighters.
Deborah the judge 12
Deborah, Barak and the brave Israelites stood on Mount Tabor and watched below as the Sisera organised his mighty force of chariots near the river Kishon. They grew tense as they saw this mighty foe below. How could they possibly fight against such a strong army?
Deborah the judge 13
The sky grew very dark above them. Then a mighty torrent of rain came. Deborah said to Barak, ‘Go! The Lord has given Sisera into your hands. The Lord has gone out before you.’ So Barak went down from Mount Tabor with ten thousand men following him.

Deborah the judge 14Deborah the judge 15Deborah the judge 16

Deborah the judge 14
The Lord confused Sisera and his chariots as the water in the river Kishon rose to a mighty torrent, flooded the land and swept many of the army away.
Deborah the judge 15
Barak pursued the fleeing chariots and the army as far as Harosheth-hagoyim, defeating the whole army.
Deborah the judge 16
Only Sisera the commander escaped on foot. Fleeing in panic and exhausted he came to a tent and saw Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite. ‘Come in,’ said Jael, Don’t be afraid.’ So he entered her tent and she covered him with a blanket.

Deborah the judge 17Deborah the judge 18Deborah the judge 19

Deborah the judge 17
‘I’m thirsty. Please give me some water,’ Sisera begged. She opened a skin of milk, gave him a drink, and covered him up. ‘Stand in the doorway of the tent,’ he told her. ‘If someone comes by and asks you, “Is anyone in there?” say “No.”’ Then he lay down and fell asleep.
Deborah the judge 18
Jael, took a tent peg and seized a hammer. She crept up to the sleeping general and drove the tent peg into his forehead with such force it went through into the ground. So, a woman got the credit of ending the life of this cruel commander, just as Deborah had predicted.
Deborah the judge 19
The cruel Canaanites and powerful Sisera were no longer a threat to the Israelites. Barak and Deborah celebrated by singing praise to God (Judges 5). By trusting and obeying God the Israelites then enjoyed 40 years of peace.

Deborah the judge
God raises a woman judge, Deborah, to lead His people to victory.
Judges 4-5

Deborah and Barak 2Deborah and Barak 3Deborah and Barak 4

Deborah and Barak 2
After bad king Jabin invaded the land of Israel, his captain, Sisera, was mean and treated the people like slaves. ‘What can we do to be free?’ the people asked wise Deborah.
Deborah and Barak 3
Deborah prayed, asking God for help. ‘Take 10 thousand men to fight Sisera,’ she told Barak the leader of the army, ‘God will help you to win.’ But Barak was scared and didn’t trust God.
Deborah and Barak 4
‘Sisera has 900 strong war chariots and he hasn't lost a war for 20 years! I will only go if you come too,’ Barak replied. ‘God will use a woman to defeat Sisera,’ said Deborah.

Deborah and Barak 5Deborah and Barak 6

Deborah and Barak 5
Barak and the people of Israel fought Sisera’s army all day. God sent rain and the enemy chariots got stuck in the mud. Deborah, Barak and their soldiers were winning. But before they could catch Sisera, he quietly sneaked away and escaped.
Deborah and Barak 6
A woman called Jael was alone in her tent nearby. She saw Sisera coming and prayed for help. Then she invited Sisera inside her tent to hide. He was tired and thirsty.

Deborah and Barak 7Deborah and Barak 8

Deborah and Barak 7
‘I will make a bed for you to rest,’ Jael said. Sisera didn’t know that Jael was tricking him. After drinking a glass of milk, he lay down and went to sleep.
Deborah and Barak 8
Jael crept over to sleeping Sisera, hit him on the head with a tent peg, and killed the big, tough, enemy commander. Just as God had promised, a woman saved the people of Israel from their enemies.

Deborah and Barak
Deborah has the faith to trust God for victory over the invading enemy army lead by Sisera.
Judges 4

Jesus is put on trial 1Jesus is put on trial 2Jesus is put on trial 3

Jesus is put on trial 1
After Jesus was arrested, Peter followed secretly as they took Him into the courtyard of the High Priest. Peter warmed himself by the fire with the soldiers. He wanted to know what was going to happen to Jesus.
Jesus is put on trial 2
The High Priest and the rest of the council tried to trick Jesus and told lies about Him. Some of them spat in his face and hit and slapped Him. They blindfolded Him and said, ‘Tell us who hit You!’
Jesus is put on trial 3
While Peter was sat by the fire, three different people asked him if he was one of Jesus’ disciples. But he was afraid and said he didn’t know Jesus. Then he heard the cock crow and remembered that Jesus said earlier that he would deny him three times. This made him cry and cry.

Jesus is put on trial 4Jesus is put on trial 5Jesus is put on trial 6

Jesus is put on trial 4
Then the chief priests took Jesus to Pontius Pilate the governor. He asked Jesus lots of questions and when he was finished he told everyone that he could find nothing wrong with Jesus. He declared Him to be innocent.
Jesus is put on trial 5
Pilate decided to send Jesus to King Herod to be questioned. Herod was glad to see Jesus. He wanted to know about all His miracles. He asked Him lots of questions but Jesus said nothing. Then Herod and all his court and his soldiers made fun of Jesus and put a royal robe round His shoulders pretending He was a king.
Jesus is put on trial 6
Jesus was taken back to Pilate. The governor asked the crowd who he should set free: a murderer called Barabbas or Jesus? The crowd shouted ‘Free Barabbas and crucify Jesus!’ Pilate knew Jesus was innocent but he was afraid of the crowd and so he set the murderer free and ordered Jesus to be whipped and then crucified.

Jesus is put on trial 7Jesus is put on trial 8Jesus is put on trial 9

Jesus is put on trial 7
The soldiers took Jesus and put a red robe on him and placed a crown of thorns on His head. Then they began to laugh at Him and spit on Him and hit Him with a reed while kneeling before Him and pretending they believed Him to be a king.
Jesus is put on trial 8
Then the soldiers took Jesus and made him carry his own cross through the streets of Jerusalem. Many people watched Him including some women who were His friends. They were all crying.
Jesus is put on trial 9
It was very hard for Jesus to carry His cross because He had been beaten so much. One of the soldiers found a man in the crowd called Simon of Cyrene. They made him take the cross from the shoulders of Jesus and carry it out of the city to a place called Golgotha were they would crucify Jesus.

Jesus is put on trial
Peter denies knowing Jesus. Jesus is tried by Pilate and the crowd choose that Barabbus is freed and Jesus is crucified.
Matthew 26:57-27:31, Mark 15:6-10, Luke 22:58-62, John 18:28-19:14

Jesus and Pontius Pilate 2Jesus and Pontius Pilate 3Jesus and Pontius Pilate 4

Jesus and Pontius Pilate 2
Caiaphas, the High Priest, sent Jesus to be judged by Pontius Pilate, who was the Roman Governor in the province of Judea.
Jesus and Pontius Pilate 3
Pontius Pilate the Governor asked Jesus, ‘Are you the King of the Jews?’
Jesus agreed, ‘It is just as you say.’ But, when all the people mocked Him He didn’t reply.
Jesus and Pontius Pilate 4
Now once a year, Pilate released a Jewish prisoner - anyone the Jews wanted. There was a very bad man called Barabbas in jail. So Pilate asked the crowd, ‘Who shall I release, Barabbas or Jesus?’

Jesus and Pontius Pilate 5Jesus and Pontius Pilate 6Jesus and Pontius Pilate 7

Jesus and Pontius Pilate 5
Stirred up by the Jewish leaders who were jealous of Jesus, the angry crowd shouted, ‘Barabbas’. They wanted Pilate to crucify Jesus.
Jesus and Pontius Pilate 6
Pilate sat down to think about what he should do. ‘Have nothing to do with Jesus,’ his wife warned, ‘I had a bad dream about him last night.’
Jesus and Pontius Pilate 7
Once again, Pilate asked the crowd, ‘What shall I do with Jesus?’
‘Crucify Him,’ they shouted time and time again.

Jesus and Pontius Pilate 8Jesus and Pontius Pilate 9

Jesus and Pontius Pilate 8
Pilate didn’t want to punish Jesus because he knew that He was an innocent man. He washed his hands in front of everyone, to show that he did not want to be responsible.
Jesus and Pontius Pilate 9
The soldiers led Jesus into their hall. They put a scarlet robe on Him and made Him a crown from some plaited thorns. ‘Here is the King of the Jews,’ they joked.

Jesus and Pontius Pilate 10Jesus and Pontius Pilate 11

Jesus and Pontius Pilate 10
They led Him away to be crucified. Jesus was too weak to carry His cross, so the soldiers grabbed a man called Simon, from Cyrene in Africa, to carry it behind Him.
Jesus and Pontius Pilate 11
After they crucified Jesus, the soldiers threw dice to decide who should have His coat, which was beautifully woven from one piece of cloth. This happened just as God’s Word had said, long ago.

Jesus and Pontius Pilate
Pontious Pilate offers to release Jesus or Barabbas. The crowd shout for Barabbas to be freed and Jesus to be crucified.

Paul and Barnabas 1Paul and Barnabas 3Paul and Barnabas 4

Paul and Barnabas 1
Acts11:19-26 After Stephen’s death many Christians were persecuted and fled from Jerusalem. Wherever they went they told other Jews about Jesus. Some who went to Antioch also told people who were not Jews (Gentiles) about Jesus and many believed in Him.
Paul and Barnabas 3
Barnabas was thrilled to meet the new Christians and encouraged them to obey God. He was a man full of the Holy Spirit and faith and many more people became Christians.
Paul and Barnabas 4
These new Christians needed teaching so Barnabas set off to find someone who could join the leaders to help.

Paul and Barnabas 6Paul and Barnabas 7Paul and Barnabas 8

Paul and Barnabas 6
Barnabas encouraged Paul to come to Antioch to help the new converts.
Paul and Barnabas 7
Paul accepted the invitation, joining Barnabas, Simeon, Lucius and Manaen teaching the new Christians how to live for God. This team of five prophets and teachers led the church in Antioch. Paul was with them for over a year.
Paul and Barnabas 8
One day, as these men were worshiping and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Dedicate Barnabas and Saul (Paul) for the special work I want them to do.’

Paul and Barnabas 9Paul and Barnabas 11Paul and Barnabas 13

Paul and Barnabas 9
So after more fasting and prayer, they laid their hands on Paul and Barnabas and sent them on their way. A cousin of Barnabas called John Mark joined them on their travels.
Paul and Barnabas 11
They boarded a ship sailing for Cyprus. It was the island on which Barnabas had owned land and some of the persecuted Christians had fled.
Paul and Barnabas 13
They began teaching in the synagogues, telling people about Jesus and encouraging the new Christians.

Paul and Barnabas 14Paul and Barnabas 16

Paul and Barnabas 14
