The Last Supper
The Last Supper
Peter Candid 1548 – 1628
oil on canvas (105 × 168 cm) — c. 1590
Matthew 26:26 - And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
When Candid painted this canvas, he lived and worked in Munich. The style is Italian, late-Mannerist.
Jesus shares the bread. John has laid his head on his shoulder. To the right is Judas, holding the purse with the coins he had received to betray his master.
