Veronica
Veronica
Rogier van der Weyden 1399/1400 – 1464
oil on panel (101 × 35 cm) — ca. 1445
Right wing of the Crucifixion Triptych. It shows Veronica with the towel she has used to wipe the perspiration of Christ's face, when he was on his way to be crucified. Legend has it that an imprint of his face remained on the towel. The name Veronica may be derived from the Latin phrase 'vera icon', true image.
